Maca is a hardy vegetable resembling a turnip that grows high up in the Andes at about 14,000 feet. The soils of these high plateaus are extremely rich in minerals, which accounts for Maca's extraordinary content of trace minerals. It is rich in calcium, magnesium, phosphorous and iron and contains trace minerals including zinc, iodine, copper, selenium, bismuth, manganese and silica, as well as B vitamins. It also contains four alkaloids proven in scientiric investigation to nourish the endocrine glands, including the reproductive system of men and women. Maca is an adaptogen, which means it helps the body adapt to stress, and helps to return a dysfunctioning system back to normal balance. It is a natural energizer, a powerful tonic that improves physical strength and mental capability, bringing about a general improvement of body functions. It is very nourishing and strengthening. Maca can help the endocrine system, including the ovaries, testes, adrenals, pancreas and thyroid. Because endcorine gland balance and immune system function are so interrelated, it often notably enhances immune system functioning.
Maca powder can be taken with hot or cold water, mixed with fruit juice, sprinkled on cereals, added to smoothies or mixed with many other foods. Just a heaped teaspoon of Maca is required per day.
